Our program fee includes registration, tuition, excursions and activities as described in your program itinerary, as well as homestay accommodation with breakfast & dinner. Some extra money is needed for lunch and transportation, as well as recreational expenses during free time.
Lunch: It costs about RMB10 (US$1.50) to have lunch on the BLCU campus, and RMB20-100 at outside restaurants. Small Class participants have the option of eating lunch at the Lotus office. The cost is RMB30 and the food is completely organic and vegetarian.
Transportation: It costs RMB4 for roundtrip subway fare and RMB0.80 for roundtrip bus fare between your homestay and campus or the Lotus office.
Miscellaneous: Study abroad students often bring extra spending money for recreational activities and meals with friends, as well as for personal purchases and gifts.
Money Exchange: Most places in China still do not accept credit cards, so it is important to have access to cash. Our Beijing staff can help you exchange money into RMB upon arrival at the airport or the following day at nearby banks. In addition, most ATMs accept overseas debit cards and you can withdraw money in RMB (with a service charge). This is also a good way to provide a line of cash for students, if necessary. For long-term students, it is also possible to open a bank account in China and wire money from your home country. Traveler’s checks are also an option, though many banks are unable to or inexperienced in cashing them.
Lotus Educational Foundation Scholarships: Each year Lotus awards 1-2 full scholarships for students wishing to study Chinese at Beijing Language and Culture University for one academic year. The scholarship includes BLCU tuition and accommodation provided by Lotus. |
